Stereolithography (SLA) Prototype Parts  Stereolithography (SLA) Prototype Parts

Our SLA machines use 3D CAD geometry to create an exact model of your design.  The 3D CAD model is sliced into thin cross-sections or layers.  An ultraviolet laser solidifies each layer onto the surface of the liquid photo polymeric resin.  The solidified layers lower into a liquid bath until all cross-sections are built into a solid replica of your original 3D CAD model.  This process takes a matter of hours to complete.  Models can be produced from a semi flexible resin or a rigid water clear resin that can be hand polished to be transparent.  Finished models can then be snapped together, drilled, tapped, painted, or even used as a cast part mold master.  SLA models are often used for marketing presentations, investor and customer feedback, visual verification, form and fit, and design modification.  The SLA process can hold tolerances of +/- 0.005 of an inch and produce features as small as 0.012 of an inch.

Types of Stereolithography (SLA) part finishes
  • Level 1 cleanup build support removal on all part surfaces
  • Level 2 cleanup slice resolution removal on customer specified surfaces (normally) outside surfaces, inside and/or underside surfaces normally consist of a basic Level 1 cleanup.
  • Level 2 cleanup for Painting purposes; slice resolution removal on specified surfaces (normally) outside surfaces, inside and/or underside surfaces normally consists of a basic Level 1 cleanup, outside surfaces are primered for painting.
  • Level 3 cleanup polished surfaces (per customer specifications), inside and/or underside surfaces have a basic Level 1 cleanup.
